The chairman of Religious Zionism, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, is not apologizing for his remarks at his faction's meeting in the Knesset against Supreme Court Justice Yitzhak Amit - and responded this evening (Monday) to his critics: "A bunch of violent, mouthy people who don't know how to deal with opinions that are different from their own.".
Smotrich tweeted: "What all my populist critics have in common is that they didn't hear my words before they attacked me. A violent, closed-mouthed bunch who doesn't know how to deal with other opinions, and today he once again revealed his superficiality and the automatic reaction generator that activates him, proving once again how unworthy he is of leadership.".
He emphasized: "Yitzhak Amit and the Supreme Court have robbed democracy from the citizens of Israel with megalomaniacal violence, and the more extreme they become in their predation, the more drastic the correction will be.".
At the beginning of the faction meeting, Smotrich attacked: "Yitzhak Amit is a violent, predatory, total megalomaniac, who steals Israeli democracy, who lives in extreme unawareness, who allows himself to do things that have never been done in court before, and the result will be that we will run him over. There will be no choice, not voluntarily.".
The opposition parties immediately became outraged - and condemned the minister.
Opposition Leader Yair Lapid: "I am sending reinforcement to the President of the Supreme Court, the Honorable Justice Yitzhak Amit, in the face of the threat by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to assassinate him.".
Gadi Eisenkot wrote: "The last of the criminals are threatening symbols of government in Israel in the language of the sewers.".
Benny Gantz tweeted: "What begins with such words may end in blood. Stop the madness.".
