According to a report by Shiloh Fried on the Ynet website, in recent years the number of religious recruits has reached approximately 40%. A few months ago, it was revealed on Ynet that the rabbis called on the principals of religious colleges and high schools not to allow organizations that encourage the recruitment of girls to enter and talk to the students.
In a letter sent on behalf of Rabbis Eitan Eizman, Shmuel Eliyahu, David Hai HaCohen, and Yosef Artziel to the Ministry of Defense, the rabbis clarify that their position is based on clear halachic rulings and the rulings of the great rabbis of the generation, and out of public and national responsibility, and that this is not an opposition to the IDF.
The rabbis claim that the Defense Minister's statement requires full implementation on the ground. The rabbis remind us that this is a binding Torah position that must be respected as part of the policy toward the religious public. In addition, the rabbis note ongoing difficulties in maintaining the lifestyle of religious soldiers, including placing paramedics next to fighters and ceremonies in which religious soldiers left due to women singing.
The rabbis emphasize that they expect full and consistent implementation of the Defense Minister's policy at all levels of the IDF, in accordance with what they claim was presented to them. According to them, the importance of the matter requires clarification and clear guidance to all elements in the system, to ensure that the established policy is indeed implemented in practice.
The Ministry of Defense has not yet responded.
