661 days after she disappeared in Safed: Suspect arrested in kidnapping of girl Haymanot Kassau

Last night, the police arrested a suspect in the kidnapping of the girl Haymanot Kassau, who disappeared 661 days ago in Safed.

Haymanut, who was nine years old when she was kidnapped, has been missing since February 25, 2024. She was last recorded on security cameras entering the reception center where she lived with her family.

According to a report in Kan News, the suspect was arrested after allegedly committing a serious act against a girl in Beersheba. He is also suspected of obstructing legal proceedings.

His detention was extended by seven days.

In her decision, Judge Dorit Saban Noy wrote that there is reasonable suspicion sufficient at this time to extend his detention as a suspect in both cases.

After conducting investigative actions, investigators will understand if there is evidence linking him to the case of Cassao's disappearance.

Yesterday, the police announced that Commissioner Danny Levy decided that the case of Kassau's disappearance would be transferred to Lahav Unit 433.

The girl from the incident in Beersheba who recalled the details of the incident today. "He knocked on my door, came in, drank and went to the bathroom. After he came back and said to me, 'Come, I'll tell you something,' he touched, hugged and grabbed my hand so I wouldn't leave. I opened my hand and left. I screamed and left the house. I went to my neighbor's and went inside, she called the police.".

She said about the attacker that he was friends with her father, who is currently in Ethiopia: "I know him. He's a friend of my father's and he was with us in Safed. Everyone knows him and he's a nice guy. He never treated us like that.".
