Storm 'Biron', which hit Greece in recent days, is making its way to Israel - and is expected to be particularly felt from Wednesday to Friday.

According to forecaster Sharon Wechsler's report today (Monday) on 'Kan News', 'Byron' is expected to bring with it large amounts of rain and wind gusts of 60-80 km/h.

The storm's name was given to it in Greece - and the Israeli Meteorological Service chose to adopt it.

The Storm Naming Project is part of the UN's project to raise awareness of unusual weather events. Israel is included in the project, along with Greece and Cyprus.

And this is what we can expect according to the forecast: From Wednesday to Friday, exceptionally high amounts of rain are expected - 100-150 mm locally. Most of the rain is expected to fall on the coastal plain and the lowlands, but rain is expected to fall from the north of the country to the Negev.

The peak rainfall is expected on Thursday. Due to the high amounts, there is a serious concern about local flooding on the coast and in the lowlands.

At the same time, there is a concern about flooding in the rivers of the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea, as well as in the rivers of the Arava.

Reports in Greece indicate that 'Biron' caused severe damage to infrastructure throughout the country, with large areas in the center of the country and some of the islands being flooded.

It was also reported that some of the roads damaged by the storm were out of use and the authorities will be forced to invest significant resources in restoring them.
