Opening fire on terrorists - and wounded by gunfire: Dramatic footage from Roman Gofman's battle on October 7

The bold officer: The designated head of the Mossad, Major General Roman Gofman, has been in the spotlight since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his appointment to the position on Thursday.

This evening (Saturday night), Channel 13 revealed footage of one of the most talked-about events in his record - the fight he fought on October 7, during which he was also injured.

In the video, which was filmed at the Shaar Hanegev intersection, Goffman - who was then serving as commander of the Tze'elim base - is seen shooting at the terrorists, and while trying to retreat from the scene - he is shot himself.

Goffman, 49, was born in Belarus and immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of 14 in 1990. He grew up in Ashdod, and in his youth attended the ORT Ashdod Naval Officers School. Goffman is married and has three daughters. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Ashkelon Academic College, and a master's degree in political science and national security from the University of Haifa.
