MKs Moshe Aboutabul and Yoni Meshriki from the Shas faction arrived this evening (Tuesday) for a reinforcement visit to Prison 10, to the eight yeshiva students detained for the crime of studying Torah.
The MKs spoke with the young men, encouraged them, and informed them that the Shas faction was working to immediately advance the law that would regulate the status of yeshiva students. "You are not alone, we all stand behind you and work for you," they said.
During the visit, Knesset members spoke personally with the detainees, heard their stories and their strong desire to return to the synagogue, as well as the difficulties, mainly spiritual, that some of them face.
The MKs even responded to the young men's request to contact their families and encourage them.
A particularly moving scene was recorded when one of the detainees arrived at the meeting holding a tractate called Baba Metzia, which he is studying within the prison walls and is about to finish soon.
At the end of the visit, the Knesset members said: "We came to strengthen and we left strengthened. It is hard to believe that in the Jewish state, young men are being arrested for the crime of studying Torah. The great hope is to see them soon come to light, and return to studying their Talmud in the yeshiva halls.".
Before leaving, they spoke with the prison commander, Yishai Ben Baruch, and with the command team, raising with him the difficulties that arose in the meetings and being informed that the matters would be examined and handled in accordance with the rules and the law.
