A heated confrontation has developed over the past 24 hours on the X network between Elizabeth Tsurkov, who was released from captivity in Iraq, and senior political commentator Amit Segal.
The conflict developed around a tweet published by Tsurkov in English, regarding Channel 12's coverage of the killing of two suspects in the southern Gaza Strip.
A report published on Channel 12 stated: "The Air Force this morning eliminated two suspects in the southern Gaza Strip who crossed the Yellow Line, carried out suspicious actions on the ground, and approached the forces.".
In the background - Palestinian reports that these are children aged 10 and 12.
Tsurkov published an English translation of the report - and wrote: "This is how Channel 12 reported on the killing of two children aged 10 and 12 in Khan Yunis. The channel represents the mainstream in Israel.".
Amit Segal responded sharply to the tweet: "What a wonderful country Israel is, that even its greatest enemies make an effort to ransom captives who have nothing to do with it and who are not its fault. Even scum like Tsurkov do not deserve to rot in captivity of terrorist organizations.".
Tsurkov responded: "If you consider an accurate English translation of Channel 12's headline to be a 'tinoff' about the state, maybe it's worth changing something in the coverage to bring it into line with journalistic standards? And the State of Israel did work for my release, and I thank those involved who did not heed your public call while I was in captivity not to do so.".
Segal replied to her: "You are an obsessive person who hates his country. Instead of sitting quietly and taking stock of the enormous price that your stupid adventures have exacted from the country over the years, you still dare to spit a handful of tweets in English into the well.".
Tsurkov clarified: "I do not hate the state. I criticize its policies in many areas, and express my appreciation for its policies in other areas. If you want to live under a regime where it is forbidden to express such criticism, go to Gaza.".
Segal concluded his remarks: "You don't hate the country, you are simply in a years-long rut of slandering the country while using the cheapest tools of enemy propaganda, including the systematic downplaying of 7/10 and the systematic intensification of the results of IDF operations. I will not go to Gaza because, unlike you, I do not tend to throw responsibility for my actions on the country, but you are welcome.".
