In light of the tensions between them in recent weeks: New York City Mayor-elect Zohar Mammadani met with President Donald Trump at the White House last night (Saturday night).

At the end of the meeting, the American president said: "It was an excellent meeting. I want New York to succeed, and we are going to help it.".

Mamdani said at the press conference that the Israeli government "is committing genocide and the US administration is assisting it." He added: "I appreciate every effort to promote peace.".

President Trump did not respond to these comments during the meeting with reporters.

When Trump was asked about the threat made by Medani to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he came to New York, the president replied briefly: "We didn't discuss that.".

Trump responded negatively when asked if Mamdani was a jihadist.

The mayor-elect said at the end of the meeting that Trump's voters voted for him "because they wanted an end to wars" - and added: "We need to listen to the voters instead of preaching. When I talked to Trump's voters, they told me they want to reduce the cost of living, and we intend to work on that.".

The American president referred to the ideological differences between the two and said: "We will work on them between us. We want New York to be safe and we have talked about that at length. We will work together to expel bad people from the city.".

When asked if he would feel comfortable living in New York under Mayor Mamdani, he replied: "Yes, especially after the meeting today.".
