A Brooklyn court recently approved a plea deal with Miriam Yarimi, 33, who was convicted of killing Sarah Natasha Saada, 35, a Haredi from the Syrian community in Flatbush, and her two daughters, Dvora Mazal, 5, and Dina Bracha, 8, in a fatal car accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon last March.
The son, Rafael Pinchas, then 4 years old, who was hospitalized in very serious condition, miraculously recovered and returned home after about a month in the hospital.
Under the controversial deal, Yarimi will serve only three to nine years in prison - much less than the maximum sentence of 15 years demanded by the prosecution.
According to a report on Channel 7, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said it intends to submit an official letter to the court prior to sentencing, containing extensive details of the offenses that preceded the accident, along with reasons for a more severe sentence.
The district attorney said: "The lives of Natasha Saada and her two daughters were taken due to the selfish choices of a chronically negligent driver.".
The tragedy occurred when Yarimi, who was driving a luxury Audi A4, sped along Ocean Parkway in the Flatbush neighborhood, crashed into an Uber vehicle and then ran over the family who were crossing the road.
The driver, who was driving the vehicle even though her license was suspended, claimed at the scene of the accident: "The devil has entered me, I am possessed.".
Yarimi has since been revealed as a problematic driver, with over 93 traffic violations - including at least 20 speeding tickets - and accumulated fines totaling over $10,000.
In the events of the investigation after the accident, she was quoted as telling the police, "The devil is in my eyes... prove to me that I killed someone.".
Sarah and her two daughters, the wife and two daughters of Governor Rabbi Sidney Saada, were flown - after a funeral filled with grief - to be buried on Mount Hamunuch in Jerusalem.
