Antisemitism in Canada: Anastasia, who holds dual Canadian-Israeli citizenship, applied for a Canadian passport - and was met with a surprising refusal from Canadian Interior Ministry officials.
Officials refused to register the young woman's place of birth - Kfar Saba - because it is "subject to political controversy.".
According to a report in Israel Hayom, Anastasia refused to accept the decision and sought the services of Neil Overman, a lawyer and political activist from the Conservative Party.
Oberman wrote on X Network: "Our client, a Canadian citizen, was told that her place of birth - Kfar Saba, Israel - could not appear on her passport 'due to the political conflict.' No law supports this. No regulation authorizes this. No democracy should tolerate this.".
""Passports are not political documents. They are a tool of identity and equality before the state. When administrative discretion becomes discrimination, the rule of law itself breaks down. Canada must improve. Accountability begins with transparency and training.".
In the past, the Supreme Court of Canada rejected a request by an Israeli citizen to include his birthplace - Jerusalem - on his passport, claiming that Jerusalem is partly located in areas not recognized by the Canadian government as part of Israel.
The citizen herself published a video in which she said: "An employee of the Ministry of Interior told me that it is impossible to register Israel as my country of birth. These are clear results of the actions of this government and the leadership that is in power.".
