Two boys riding an electric scooter attacked a Hasidic Jew in Ashdod yesterday (Tuesday) as he walked on Abuhatzeira Street in District 3, snatched his hat from his head - and fled.
This is the second attack this week against ultra-Orthodox passersby.
Last Shabbat night, young men riding scooters spat on a 5-year-old girl in the heart of the Haredi quarter, humiliated a yeshiva student, and hit the shtreimel of a Hasidic rabbi.
""I was on my way to the 'Beit Lepa' bar in District 3," the avrabech told the 'Ashdods' website. "I didn't have time to get a word out of my mouth. I barely said 'hello' - and they already ran away with my hat. What do they have to do with my hat? Nothing. Just hatred for the ultra-Orthodox, malice and audacity.
""I am shocked that something like this could happen in the State of Israel 2025. Phenomena of hatred of the ultra-Orthodox for its own sake, without any justification, rationale, or explanation, while harassing the individual, the lone worshipper - just because he is dressed as an ultra-Orthodox. Simply shameful.".
""Shame on the law enforcement authorities that there is no deterrence. There is simply zero deterrence, and the rioters do whatever they want. They have been beating in the last few weeks in the sixth district, they have been beating on Saturday in the seventh district, and now in the third district. In the meantime, it boils down to throwing shtreimels, spitting on girls, and stealing shtreimels. What's next?"'
According to residents' testimonies, the phenomenon repeats itself almost every Saturday.
The man who was attacked yesterday told the Ashdods website that he did not file an official police complaint for fear of being arrested by the military police. He wondered: "Is this the reward for all the lawbreakers in Ashdod who hate the Haredim and can harass all the Haredim in the city?"'
