A 22-year-old young man from Modi'in Illit committed several suspicious incidents in the past week - which led to his arrest and imprisonment. After his arrest, it was revealed that the suspect had served 26 months in prison for serious acts against children - and was recently released from prison.

According to a report by Avi Cohen in Israel Hayom, it all started when the young man opened the door of a parked car, in which a helpless toddler was sitting, looked at her and said, "How cute." Minutes later, he "arrived to pick up a child" from kindergarten, but the kindergarten teacher did not recognize him.

Police were called to the scene and arrested him.

An indictment filed against him recounts the moments of horror: The mother put her one-year-old and seven-month-old daughter in the car seat and moved to sit in the front seat. The suspect suddenly opened the back door, looked at the toddler and blurted out: "How cute." The mother immediately responded: "No, no!""

The young man backed away, closed the door, and walked away.

Minutes later, the bell rang at the gate of a nearby kindergarten. A kindergarten teacher who arrived at the gate met the suspect who confidently declared to her: "I came to pick up a child." The kindergarten teacher, who did not recognize his face, asked him to leave. The response was surprising - he raised his voice and insisted on his demand. Only after another firm intervention did he finally retreat from the scene.

The police investigation revealed that he was a convicted felon who had only recently finished serving 26 months in prison for serious offenses.

During his police interrogation, the young man provided varying and puzzling explanations. He once claimed that the bell was ringing because he was "singing a birthday song," and another time he told of a mysterious friend who sent him to pick up a child.

When the car door opened, he initially claimed that he was confused and thought it was his car - even though he doesn't have one. He later changed his version and claimed that his mother called him to come closer.

His convictions include indecent acts on minors under the age of 14, sodomy on a minor, and indecent acts on a minor who is a member of his family. The young man was under a strict supervision order that specifically prohibited him from any contact or presence with minors.

The blatant violation of the order, only a short time after his release from prison, raised serious concerns and led to the conclusion that the suspect posed a "real danger to the public.".
