A morning of cranes at Agmon Hula-KKL-JNF: The crane migration is intensifying, and thousands of them are making their way from Europe, via us - to Africa.
This morning (Thursday), 32,600 cranes were counted in Agmon Hula.
Cranes are considered to be an especially strong bird, and unlike other large birds, they also migrate at night.
The spectacular migration will provide an opportunity in the coming weeks to see the unique phenomenon of crane migration in the skies of Israel. At night, their voices can be heard far and wide.
During the fall migration, cranes migrate as a family - parents and young that hatched the previous spring. They maintain the family unit mainly through vocal communication, and they recognize the voices and calls of family members, even within the large flock.
Inbar Shlomit Rubin, field manager at Agmon Hula: "The cranes are wonderful! Their lifestyle is fascinating and we can learn quite a few things from them. During this season, the cranes roam the fields of the Hula Valley during the day, and when the sun sets, they gather for the night at Agmon, the place safe from predators.
""The Hula-KKL-JNF reservoir is one of the most important habitats in Israel and the world. It is a critical stopping point for migratory birds. The reservoir promises a variety of species a safe haven for rest and strengthening, a wealth of food, and the ability to accumulate energy to continue their long journey.".
