The Legal Advisor to the Government, Gali Baharav Miyara, announced today (Wednesday) that she will not participate in the Constitutional Committee's hearing - regarding her conflict of interest in the investigation into the leak in the 'Yemen Field' affair.

In an official letter sent to the committee, it was stated that it and the investigating authorities would not take part in the hearing, for fear of disrupting the criminal proceedings.

In response, Meara emphasized that she had no connection to the affair and that she was not aware of it.

According to her, "information indicating the source of the leak or suspicion of criminal offenses resulting from it was not previously in the possession of law enforcement authorities.".

She added: "Soon after receiving the information, approval was given to conduct a criminal investigation with regard to the full range of offenses related to the information received. The investigation is being conducted by the Israel Police and is in full swing, and is being handled by the heads of systems, the Legal Advisor to the Government, the State Attorney, and the Head of the Investigations and Intelligence Division of the Israel Police," the letter said. "The investigation is being advanced at a rapid pace based on recommendations and prioritization by the professional investigative elements.".

The attorney general warned that holding the Knesset debate at this stage "could lead, with a high probability, to disrupting the investigation and polluting the criminal process - whether intentionally or unintentionally.".

Senior political commentator Fellow He responded: "In another act of fundamental defensive democracy, the Attorney General will boycott the Knesset debate on the Yemeni field affair. She claims obstruction of investigative procedures with high probability.".

""But there is a logical problem here. When the Knesset members claimed that having the Military Prosecutor's Office handle the leak investigation would lead to concealing the truth, the Attorney General dismissed their words with contempt and explained that there was no reason to suspect the military prosecutor.".

""Now, when it turns out they were right and she was at least wrong, she refuses to come to the hearing. So who does she think should investigate her own oversight failures? Historians?""

On behalf of the Chairman of the Constitution Committee, MK Simcha Rothman The response stated: "The law obligates everyone, including the Attorney General. It is not surprising that someone who has a conflict of interest and is involved in obstructing an investigation violates the provisions of the law and refuses to appear in the Knesset.".

MK Rotman also addressed the discussion on the 'Yemen Field' affair: "For years, the judicial system has become accustomed to the fact that it investigates itself. This is going to change. The Constitution Committee will hold a joint discussion with the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on preventing conflicts of interest in the manner of investigating the Magistrate and on the subject of the false affidavits submitted to the Supreme Court on the matter. The citizens of Israel want answers, and they will receive them.".

Yesterday, the chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, MK Boaz Bismuth For discussion: "There will be attempts to whitewash, there will be those who will try to clear the names of senior figures in the law enforcement system, but a heavy shadow hangs over the entire system, and this shadow will not disappear. The public expects transparency and we will ensure that it exists!""

At the same time as the Attorney General's letter was sent, last night the criminal records were briefed by the investigation team, and they were informed that the investigation findings revealed that the Attorney General and the State Attorney were not connected to the leak.

This morning, a hearing will be held to extend the detention of Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi and former military prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Matan Solomesh, who are suspected of leaking the video.
