MK Yisrael Eichler spoke today (Monday) in the Knesset plenary, during the debate on the Dayanim Law, which he submitted together with MK Moshe Gafni.
Eichler said: "The Dayanim Law came to correct a great injustice. In the past, and as every Jew knows, litigants would take even three cattle herders, as written in the Gemara, and ask to have a trial conducted before them. The legal system came along and abolished that. The law before us will correct that.".
Eichler referred to the day commemorating the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin: "There is a lot of talk about incitement and dangerous words. I want to tell you that what they are doing to the Haredi sector, how they are denying its legitimacy, is really incitement. In the future, if they release the protocols and see how they spoke about the Haredi, about their basic right to live here, about the rights of their babies and mothers, people will not believe that there was a Jewish state here. How can this be? The arrogance that the Haredi public has and the legitimacy to say anything about them, is something that must stop.
""The worst thing is the arrests of Torah students. Since when has it been a thing to arrest someone for studying Torah? I don't think there's any reason to arrest deserters during wartime. If someone has a problem with income tax, they bring them to court to settle their case. But to arrest them?! Is that why they established a Jewish state here? To arrest Torah students?!
""And whoever is doing this is not the Knesset and the democratic institutions, but the High Court of Justice that took power by force. After all, we enacted laws that would regulate the right of Torah students to study. Ben-Gurion already recognized this, then Ezer Weizmann and Begin helped. Suddenly, High Court judges come and cancel the law. Who put them in charge to decide against the people? This week, the Supreme Court judge said that three thousand yeshiva students should be arrested because there is room in the detention facilities. Today, it was learned that they released a terrorist to Gaza, so there is room for another yeshiva student. Where have we come to?
""I am sure that the day will come when everyone will recognize the right of Torah scholars, and that it will be their right for the rabbinical courts to decide Torah laws, and we will be able to live a life of peace and tranquility.".
