Amit Segal, the senior political commentator for News 12, addressed the dramatic development in the affair of the leak of the video from the Yemeni Field base - and the placing of the military police chief, Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, on leave this evening (Wednesday) in the studio.

According to him, this is an extremely serious incident - not only from an ethical perspective, but also from a criminal perspective. "This story, the small part of it, is the fact that the MP or someone around her is suspected of leaking the recording published by Guy Peleg. This is the small part, although it has very significant implications.".

He later clarified that the main problem lies in the fact that the investigation itself was, until recently, allegedly conducted by the deputy of the chief of police, which raises serious questions about the reliability of the procedure.

""If the military prosecutor, unfortunately, knows, or was even complicit in leaking this matter, and at the same time, the military prosecutor's office that is subordinate to her determines 'we didn't find, we didn't see, it's impossible to investigate' - then obstruction of investigative procedures is on the table, false registration in corporate documents is definitely on the table because you wrote something that you know is not true.".

Segal added: "There was an investigation and it was completely covered up. How do we know? Because for a year and a half, the attorney general, without her knowledge, has been assisting in the cover-up and she is saying that it is impossible to find and impossible to investigate - because that is what the MAG told her. The attorney general is essentially functioning as a statistician in this affair.".

According to him, the development came following new information: "Someone came to the police and said, 'Listen, here, this is the man who gave and I have the proof for it.' And it was strong enough for the police to go to the attorney general, and the attorney general to say there was no choice but to investigate, and the Chief of Staff to say she would go on vacation.".

The commentator wondered: "Are attempts being made to recruit a state witness" - and added: "When will we know the truth? Now the MP is going on vacation and whoever replaces her is taking her place, as the one who conducted the prosecutor's fake investigation.".

Segal lashed out at the investigation's management so far: "Whoever has been involved here is from the top of the military prosecutor's office, which is the one who said there's nothing to see here.".
