Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana informed Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich today (Tuesday) that he has decided to make a third cut to the Knesset's budget since the beginning of his term, this time amounting to 125 million NIS - which will be transferred to the state treasury.

This cut of NIS 125 million from the Knesset budget for 2025 joins two previous cuts decided by the Knesset Speaker - NIS 80 million, which was made in November 2023, and NIS 121 million, which was made in January 2024, for the benefit of the war effort.

The total total cuts from the Knesset budget since the beginning of the 25th Knesset are NIS 326 million.

The issue will be forwarded to the Joint Committee on the Knesset Budget for approval for implementation.

The Knesset emphasized that this is a cut that will not harm the continuation of its vital and ongoing activities, and that the principles regarding the independence of the Knesset budget and the separation of powers will be maintained.

Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana: "The Knesset is committed not only as a legislature but also as an institution and organization to assisting the state in its economic efforts. My policy is to cut public funds as much as possible and return them to the treasury so that they can be returned to citizens and to the reconstruction of communities damaged in the war.".
