The government today (Sunday) approved changing the name of the war from "Iron Swords" to "The War of Rebirth.".
Minister Amichai Shikli abstained from voting and Minister Orit Struck opposed.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of the government meeting: "Today I am bringing for government approval the proposal to call the war a permanent official name: 'The War of Rebirth.' After two years of continuous fighting, we remember how we began. We rose from the terrible disaster of October 7th.".
""We rose to our feet with a swing, and returned a hair-raising war to our enemies. We removed from us the existential threat of the Iranian axis. We established the national revival enterprise in the Land of Israel, in our strong and flourishing state. During the days of Operation 'Am Kalavi' against Iran, I emphasized the sublime destiny rooted in our heritage: 'Am Kalavi will rise.' Thus, as for the entire campaign: This is the war of revival of our people, as a direct continuation of the War of Independence.
""We are also about to award bravery and military medals to our heroic soldiers and commanders. As was the case in previous military campaigns, the decorations of the current campaign will bear the official name of the War of Rebirth.".
Minister of Settlement and National Missions Orit Struck opposed the name change - explaining: "Moshe Salomon told me that a baby in the Ethiopian community receives its name only after many months when they observe it and understand who it is and what its character is.".
Netanyahu: So what is his name in the meantime?
Stroke: They call him "The Baby.".
Struck continued: "Right now, with this war, we are in a make-or-break phase. Therefore, it is too early to determine what it will be. We have to wait and see if we will achieve all of its goals, or if we will introduce new dangers into Gaza, such as Turkish, Qatari forces, and the like, and if we will hand over the dismantling of the tunnels to people I would not let fix the plumbing in my house.".
