The government is discussing the possibility of promoting a government - rather than a state - commission of inquiry to investigate the events of October 7.

The government wants to establish a government investigation committee, which will also receive the powers of a state investigation committee. However, the members of the government committee will be appointed by the ministers themselves, unlike a state investigation committee - whose members are appointed by Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit, whom the government does not recognize.

News 12 commentator Amit Segal published the names of the candidates for the committee this evening (Saturday Night): retired Supreme Court Justice Yosef Elron and retired Justice Asher Kola.

Retired Supreme Court Justice Yosef Elron retired just three weeks ago, upon reaching the age of 70. Retired Justice Asher Kola today serves as the Ombudsman for Judges.

The investigative committee is supposed to consist of five members.

After the publication, the courts' spokeswoman clarified at Elron's request: "Retired Judge Elron is in a three-month period of writing rulings and until his last day in court, he will not be engaged in anything other than litigation!".

Amit Segal responded: "Interesting, there is no denial here of what he will do starting in two months.".
