A senior Hamas official abroad, Musa Abu Marzouk, angrily left an interview yesterday (Friday) on the inter-Arab channel Al-Ra'd, broadcasting from Egypt, after he had difficulty answering the interviewer's questions.
The interview was conducted when Abu Marzouk went on air from Qatar - and the interviewer posed questions "from the Palestinian street" about whether the attack on October 7 served Palestinian goals, given the destruction in Gaza.
Interviewer Osama al-Sharif asked: "Mr. Abu Marzouk, we are months after Operation Tawdah al-Aqsa (the October 7 massacre). Do you think this operation really advanced the goals of the Palestinian people? The street in Gaza is asking: 'Was it worth the price? The destruction here is immense – homes, schools, hospitals.' How do you respond to the residents of Gaza who feel that the pain is too great?""
Abu Marzouk responded: "Hamas fulfilled its national duty. We did what reality forced upon us - resistance to the occupation, oppression, settlements, and Palestinian prisoners in all wings of the Israeli prison. This was not an ordinary operation, it was a response to the cries of the Palestinian land. The world needs to understand: there is no peace without justice.".
The interviewer went on to ask: "But Mr. Abu Marzouk, the residents of Gaza say: 'Where are the achievements? We suffer from hunger, daily bombings, and the occupation is still here. Didn't you expect such a response from Israel? The street asks if it was worth the thousands of children who were killed.".
The leader in #Hamas Musa Abu Marzouq said that the October 7 attack in which 1,500 elements participated "was not for the liberation of Palestine", then evaded the answer and stopped the interview!

Abu Marzouk responded: "We will examine everything in the end - where we succeeded and where we failed. But that's not how you measure a campaign. The goal was to return the Palestine issue to the agenda and to the world. Now everyone is talking about Gaza, about our rights. This is a strategic victory.".
Later, he was asked: "But in practice, Gaza is being destroyed. People are losing hope. I bring you the questions from the Palestinian street, from the residents of Gaza themselves - they ask whether Hamas took this price into account.".
Abu Marzouk began to lose control, and raised his voice: "These are not street questions! These are your questions! Respect yourself. I don't want to talk to you anymore. I don't want to see you. Cut it! Cut it! Go to hell!".
Abu Marzuk then disconnected, and the screen paused on his frozen image. The broadcast went to a commercial.
The interviewer responded after the disconnect: "Sorry, Mr. Musa Abu Marzouk, I won't let you talk to me like that. In any case, this reveals the mentality of the Hamas movement and its escape from answers and questions in light of the mass destruction committed against the Palestinian people. This is a response that speaks for itself. Perhaps this explains why the Palestinian street feels disconnected from the leadership.".
