United Torah Judaism chairman, MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, caused a stir again - this time when he compared, at a Sukkot event last night (Thursday), the kidnapped in Gaza to the 'deserters' imprisoned in Israel.
He said this after sending an angry letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu on Sunday, in which he mentioned in one breath the hostages who have been held captive by Hamas for over 700 days, in conditions of hunger and suffering, and the ultra-Orthodox 'deserters'.
At the event, Goldknopf said: "We really care about the yeshiva students. Today we are happy that the kidnapped ones are being released, but we do not forget our brothers who are languishing in prison - not because they are evasive, God forbid, because they have never harmed evasive students. Evasive Torah students - these are the ones who are being put in prison.".
Goldknopf then addressed the situation of the imprisoned yeshiva students and said: "We pray that they will truly be released. The time has come to open our eyes. After everyone, all the kidnapped, with God's help, arrives home in the coming days - the entire Jewish people, in the land and in exile, will unite and pray for us too so that we can continue to study Torah. We were fine here for 70 years, and we will continue to be fine now.".
