Henry Hamra, the son of the former Chief Rabbi of Syria, has announced a candidacy for the Syrian parliamentary elections.
According to a report by Guy Maayan in Kan News, Hamra is running in the elections to be held this coming Sunday for a seat in the city of Damascus.
Information leaflets on his campaign account published the clauses of his platform, which include strengthening Syrian national identity, accelerating Syria's reconstruction and economic growth, and demonstrating the appearance of the "new Syria.".
Another element of his platform was the protection of the Syrian national heritage and cultural identity, the building of bridges of dialogue with Syrian residents living outside the homeland, and the establishment of a constitutional regime based on the principles of social justice.

On the occasion of the Tishrei holidays, Hamra, who is currently in Syria, held a shofar blowing ceremony in one of the synagogues in the capital Damascus.
Hamra and his father, two members of the Syrian Jewish community who left it for the United States in the 1990s, have already visited Syria more than once in recent months after the rise of the new government, in an attempt to revive the Jewish heritage in Syria.
