The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment with the Jerusalem District Court today (Monday) against Muhammad Hassan, 42, a resident of Jerusalem, who carried out a stabbing attack in the dining room of a hotel in Kibbutz Tzova about two weeks ago.

The prosecution is asking the court to order the arrest of the defendant until the end of the legal proceedings against him.

According to the indictment, filed by Attorney Shai Etzion of the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, Hassan - who worked as a dishwasher on a kibbutz - decided to carry out an attack motivated by nationalism.

He took a knife from the kitchen, entered the dining room where about 200 guests were, and stabbed two of them in the chest with the intention of killing them. One of the victims was evacuated in serious condition, underwent several surgeries and required prolonged hospitalization, and the second victim was also injured by a stab wound to the chest.

Afterwards, a hotel employee who was present at the scene overpowered him, took the knife from him and laid him on the floor, until a police officer present at the scene arrested the defendant.

The indictment accuses the defendant of committing the offense of attempted murder in an act of terrorism.

Attorney Shai Etzion, from the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, said: "The defendant turned a family gathering place into a terrorist scene when he sought to kill innocent people solely because of their identity. The Attorney General's Office will work to bring him to justice as part of the fight against terrorism.".
