Heavy billboard flies from truck onto minibus on Highway 5: Two killed and three seriously injured

A 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were killed and three others were seriously injured in an accident involving a minibus and a truck on Highway 5, near the Green Village interchange - when a heavy billboard flew off the truck and hit the minibus.

Eight other people were slightly injured in the accident.

All the injured were evacuated to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, and Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.

MDA paramedic Tomer Gusman from the MDA motorcycle unit said: "We received a report of a minibus loaded with passengers that was damaged in a traffic accident. We arrived at the scene with large forces and saw that it was a serious traffic accident. The minibus had severe metal damage. We began initial triage for the injured. A man about 40 years old was unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, with multiple systemic injuries.

""We performed medical examinations and unfortunately we were forced to declare him dead at the scene. At the same time, additional MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment to a 30-year-old woman who was evacuated during CPR operations, and to 3 passengers who were seriously injured.".

""Eight additional passengers in the minibus were slightly injured. We provided medical treatment to all of them and evacuated them in MDA ambulances to hospitals while continuing medical treatment,",

Israel Biton, Akiva HaCohen and Israel Peretz, members of the United Hatzalah: "This is an accident involving a transport vehicle and several vehicles. Passersby said that the accident occurred after an iron object - a heavy billboard - fell on a transport vehicle.

""Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead due to the nature of the severe injuries he suffered. We also provided first aid at the scene of the accident to 12 injured people, one of whom was in critical condition while undergoing resuscitation efforts, and the rest in serious, moderate, and mild condition. Firefighters were on scene due to the nature of the accident.".

Yechiel Goldman, ZAKA's Chief of Staff, and Eran Kozhi, head of the Herzliya ZAKA team who are handling the scene: "This is a very difficult scene. A minibus was driving on the road and in the opposite lane a truck with a load of billboards passed. While driving, one of the signs flew off the minibus.

""The rescue forces determined the death of a man about 40 years old, a woman about 30 years old who was evacuated in critical condition was also determined to be dead. With the assistance of additional volunteers, we are handling the difficult and complex scene and assisting the police forces operating at the scene.".

A spokesperson for Ichilov Hospital said: Two injured women were evacuated from the accident in Glilot to the emergency room at the Tel Aviv Ichilov Medical Center. One of them is in serious condition and is currently being treated in the trauma room. Unfortunately, the second injured woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
