Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister, Gali Baharav Mayara, today (Thursday) delivered a scathing letter to National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, in which she stated that the policy document he presented on handling protests and roadblocks "is unlawful, invalid, and cannot be acted upon.".
In a statement, it stated that this was "unlawful political interference in police work, an unjustified violation of the right to protest, and a violation of the principles that the minister pledged to uphold.".
According to her, publishing a valid policy requires formulation in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The letter emphasized that the Minister of National Security does not have direct authority to set policy regarding how the police will deal with demonstrations and roadblocks. "This is an issue that lies at the core of the police's professional judgment, and subjecting it to political considerations would severely damage public trust," the advisor argued.
National Security Minister MK Itamar Ben-Gvir said in response to the attorney general's statement: "Gali Bahar-Miara encourages anarchy, wants to see blood, and is not satisfied with an elderly MK being knocked to the floor by a group of anarchists who are acting with her backing.".
""I will not be deterred by the despicable and criminal methods of Baharav-Miara, who has been avoiding a discussion of the policy document I submitted for months, and then claims that the document is not valid because she has not yet responded to it. To her great regret, the public gave me the mandate - not her. She will not scare me from doing my job. The public that experiences violence in the streets has no time to wait for Baharav-Miara.".
