Sergeant Chalchao Shimon Damlash, a soldier in the Nahal Brigade, fell in Gaza City

Sergeant Chalchao Shimon Damlash, 21, from Beersheba, a fighter in the 932nd Battalion of the Nahal Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.

The incident in which Damlash fell occurred yesterday around 6:00 PM, during an activity by Division 162 in northern Gaza City.

During the fighting, fighters from Battalion 932 of the Nahal Brigade were attacked by gunfire, apparently carried out by a sniper.

Damlaş was on guard duty, suffered a direct hit and was fatally injured, and later the medical team was forced to declare him dead.

His funeral will take place today (Thursday) at 2:00 PM at the military cemetery in Be'er Sheva.

The number of casualties since the outbreak of the war stands at 912.

Beersheba Mayor Rubik Danilovitz said: "The city mourns and is saddened by the fall of the city's resident, Sergeant Chalchao Shimon Damlash, a fighter in the 932nd Granite Battalion of the Nahal Brigade, in the battle in the Gaza Strip. We bow our heads and share in the deep sorrow of his family and loved ones.".

Over the past 24 hours, IDF forces have continued to seize areas under control of Gaza City, and are in fact about to encircle the city on all sides, except for the coastline axis - Al Rashid, from which Palestinian movement southward is possible.

According to estimates, about 700,000 residents of Gaza City have already evacuated, and about 300,000 people remain in the city.
