Last night, a special Selichot event was held in Kiryat Ono, led by Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu.
Shortly before the event, an unknown person sprayed slanderous graffiti on the walls of the synagogue, the most prominent of which was: "Elijah eats death.".
The ugly incident was discovered by the organizers near the beginning of the event, and a complaint was filed with the police.
Today (Friday), a city resident suspected of the act was arrested after being located by police. The suspect, a 51-year-old resident of Kiryat Ono, was detained for questioning at the station for vandalism of real estate. At the end of the questioning, the suspect was released under restrictive conditions and house arrest.
Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu commented on the event: "There are people who do not want to hear the truth of the other side, only to shut him up. To prevent him from presenting his position lest people hear the truth and be convinced. Yesterday I encountered this phenomenon in Kiryat Ono. Many came to participate in the Selichot event, but someone heard about the event and it was not suitable for him. He decided not to come to the Selichot, and this is a legitimate decision.
""What is illegitimate is that he decided that no one in Kiryat Ono would hear what I had to say. In order to silence me, he called on people to come and blow up the event. He got big-headed, took red paint and wrote inflammatory inscriptions on the wall of the synagogue against me and against all the worshippers.".
Rabbi Eliyahu added: "It didn't help him. Hundreds of people came to hear, to listen, to change, to progress. To transcend and not be fixed on one type of thought all their lives.".
