MK Ofer Kassif reached an agreement on a plea deal with the prosecution in which he will admit to the offense of assaulting a police officer under aggravated circumstances.
According to a report this evening (Wednesday) by Avishai Greenzig on Channel i24, the plea agreement reached by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office with Kassif refers to up to seven months of service and an admission of assaulting a police officer under aggravated circumstances.
Furthermore, the prosecution argued that he should be "discredited," the defense attorney objected, and it was decided to leave this open to the court's decision. In addition, the indictment will be amended in a minor way in terms of wording.
This is after the MK was recorded three and a half years ago - in May 2022, attacking a police officer.
The incident occurred when MK Kassif tried to reach a demonstration that was taking place in a closed military area. The police tried to prevent him from continuing on his way, but he drove away with his vehicle and ran over a police officer's leg. After the runover, he got out of his vehicle and slapped the security forces officer.
It should be noted that this is not the first time MK Kassif has been accused of assaulting a police officer under aggravated circumstances.
As part of the agreements, the prosecution will request 7 months of community service, but the defense attorney may argue for a lower sentence.
The agreement is awaiting approval from the Legal Advisor to the Government.
The prosecutor's office denied the report and claimed that it was false advertising.
