A 9-year-old girl who fell and felt pain in her hand arrived at AZ Zeno Hospital in the resort town of Knokke-Heist, Belgium.
Although her condition was described as normal, the doctor who treated her, Dr. Qassem Arqawizi, a radiology specialist of Iraqi origin, wrote in the medical report under the "Medical Problems/Allergies" section: "Jewish" - and added the word "Israel" in parentheses.
The parents were horrified to discover the anti-Semitic comment, and the unusual case became known throughout the Jewish community in Belgium.
The affair was exposed by the JID organization for combating anti-Semitism, which announced its intention to file a formal complaint with local law enforcement authorities.
The organization called on the hospital management to fire the doctor immediately.
The organization strongly attacked what they called the doctor's "marking of the Jews," making it clear that this was a dangerous anti-Semitic act.
""A doctor who openly spreads anti-Semitic and Islamist hatred is a direct threat not only to Jewish patients, but also to Sunni Muslim patients. We call for immediate action and termination of the employment of this dangerous doctor.".
