Media figure Avi Mimran addressed today (Monday), in an interview with Knesset Channel, the phenomenon of rabbis accepting women for personal consultations - and said that this is an act that is contrary to religious law.

Mimran: "This concept of a so-called rabbi who accepts women for personal consultations is anti-halakhic. I appeal to every religious, traditional, secular woman - a rabbi who accepts you for a private consultation, in private, is not a rabbi. A rabbi who crosses this line in halakhic - is not a rabbi.".

He emphasized: "It's irrelevant who he is, what his name is, what kind of beard he has, what community he's from. Don't get involved with him. There is no situation where a rabbi would accept a woman alone in a closed room with four eyes. We didn't grow up like that, we didn't see it, not with Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, not with Rabbi Shach, not with all the greats of recent generations.".

According to him, the phenomenon is not limited to a particular sect. "It doesn't matter what the identity of the rabbi is - national religious, ultra-Orthodox, knitted kippa, black kippa, Sephardi, Ashkenazi. We must address this phenomenon. Time and again, all these incidents repeat themselves about some rabbi who became a guru and head of a community with crazy charisma. I don't want to talk specifically about any one person.".

Mimran added that this is a violation of the laws of uniqueness that appear in the Shulchan Aruch. "How can a rabbi himself go over dramatic sections in the Shulchan Aruch? This undermines his entire rabbiship.".
