Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was seriously injured in a car accident that occurred Saturday evening on a highway near the city of Manchester, New Hampshire.
Giuliani, 81, stopped on the side of the road to help a woman who appeared to be a victim of domestic violence. "Prior to the accident, she signaled him to stop, he helped her and called 911, and remained at the scene until officers arrived. The accident occurred as he was returning to his vehicle, when he was struck from behind by a speeding vehicle that struck him," his spokesman said.
According to a statement from his spokesman, Giuliani - a lover of Israel - was taken to the hospital suffering from a fractured vertebra in his spine, fractures in his arm and leg, and other injuries. However, the spokesman said he is "recovering and in good spirits" and is expected to be released from the hospital in the coming days.
