In an update to the High Court submitted by the Military Defense, as part of its petition against State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman, which deals with the State Comptroller's accelerated activity regarding the October 7th failures, the defense claims that despite its petition and request for an interim order to suspend the audit proceedings, the Comptroller accelerated his activity, contacted the most senior officials in the country and in the defense establishment, sent questionnaires in preparation for meetings to present their testimony, and even began formulating draft reports.
In addition, the State Comptroller issued a statement last week regarding the advancement of audits on the core issues of the October 7 events, which included the work of the political-security cabinet, the functioning of intelligence, border protection in the Gaza Strip, the economic fight against terrorism, and the course of events on October 7 and the night before.
These are issues that are at the heart of the petition filed by the Military Defense, which it claims are reserved for the investigative committee only.
The State Comptroller responded firmly: "The 'hasty' notification to the High Court of Justice by the Military Defense, similar to the 'urgent' petition from two months ago, recycles the same claims that have one goal: to disrupt the review procedures for 7.10.
""Contrary to the half-truths spread both in briefings and in today's update announcement - State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman emphasized already with his announcement of the opening of 'Iron Swords' audits, that within the framework of the dozens of audit reports that hundreds of employees of his office are working on, there will also be an audit of the core failures that led to the most serious failure in the history of the state.".

Indeed, in recent months, reports have been published that are mainly criticism of the political and civilian levels, including personal criticism. As has been emphasized more than once - state criticism is not a substitute for a state commission of inquiry, and as soon as it is established, its jurisdictional boundaries will be determined.
