Dictatorship? The IDF has decided to suspend from reserve duty military rabbi Aviad Gadot, one of the leaders of the Torat Lahima organization.
What should I do if a suspicious profile contacted me and offered to pay me for tasks? • Previously
According to a report by Doron Kadosh on Galei Tzahal, the decision was made following a statement published on the organization's Twitter account against the Chief Military Advocate, Major General Yifat Tomer Yerushalmi.
The organization's account wrote last June: "What do you think about a foot patrol for a female officer in the Nablus casbah, amid high friction with the city's terrorist population, before she hands out orders to fighters in Samaria?""
Following a request from Galei Tzahal, Chief Military Rabbi Brigadier General Eyal Karim reviewed Gadot's reserve service. He is not currently serving as a military rabbi in the unit, but rather serves in a rear-line position at the Military Rabbinate Headquarters.
After an investigation, it was decided that Gadot would be suspended from reserve service, and the IDF would later examine whether to terminate his service completely.
Gadot responded: The decision is "unfamiliar to me and my commanders""
An IDF spokesperson said: "Citizens from all populations and opinions serve in the IDF, while upholding the IDF's orders and values. The IDF condemns statements of this type against commanders and service members.".
Communications Minister Shlomo Karai supported Rabbi Gadot: "I find it serious if the MAG did not go to the field before deciding to issue restrictive orders to our fighters. This should be basic training for lawyers who are involved in issuing orders to fighters in the IDF.".
However, he noted: "I don't understand what the IDF spokesman's condemnation is about. I haven't heard any condemnation from the IDF spokesman against the leak of the false and inflammatory video from 'Yemen Field'.".
