A Jewish family was physically and verbally attacked yesterday (Monday) by an Uber driver in Austria.
According to local media reports, the anti-Semitic incident occurred in the capital city of Vienna, when a couple, two children aged 10 and 13, and another 75-year-old relative ordered an Uber service to attend a birthday celebration.
Austrian media reported that when the Uber driver heard that some of the passengers had come from Israel, he began shouting "murderers" and "child murderers." He then said that he "does not want to transport child murderers" and forced the family members out of the vehicle.
At this point, he even beat the father of the family.
The family contacted the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) and with its help a complaint was filed with the local police.
IKG President Oskar German strongly condemned the attack. He said that this was not an isolated incident, and that Jews in Austria are subjected to insults - and this is "often legitimized.".
