The fight to subsidize daycare for preschoolers: The State Attorney's Office submitted a response to the High Court of Justice, following a petition that was filed - and announced an update to procedures that will allow eligibility for subsidies for approximately 1,500 Avrehim families.

The decision was made in contrast to the previous position of the ousted Advocate General Gali Baharav-Mayara, who had opposed the subsidy since the beginning of the year.

According to data revealed in a High Court hearing, the decision will affect approximately 1,500 families who met the criteria for a subsidy for the second half of 2015, but were not granted one.

This is a retroactive subsidy of approximately NIS 100 million for six months, and this change will also apply to 2016 in an amount estimated at NIS 200 million.

Following the decision, the Ministry of Labor published new subsidy procedures - which state that students who combine vocational studies or work will be eligible for a full subsidy.

These are the procedures:

Employees: 3 consecutive, full months of work are required with a salary of no less than 3,200 shekels per month.

Self-employed: A statement from an accountant or tax advisor must be submitted, along with an affidavit signed by the parent.

Studies and professional training: A signed certificate of attendance, proof of payment, and confirmation from the institution must be submitted, including details of days and hours of study.

In addition, 491 toddlers who were rejected and filed an appeal have already been accepted into the dormitories.
