Yaakov Wider, a member of the Bnei Brak City Council and chairman of the Likud faction, is demanding an urgent discussion in the City Council today (Tuesday), following a serious report by the Ministry of Health about the discovery of polio viruses in the sewage system in Bnei Brak.
Vider warns that the city's recurring and widespread sewage overflows, "on a scale that, according to reports, exists only in Gaza and is unparalleled in any city in Israel - have transformed from an environmental and sanitary threat into an immediate health threat, especially to children and vulnerable populations.".
He added: "I have been warning about this danger for months and have even submitted concrete proposals for a solution. Unfortunately, the municipality and the mayor chose to ignore it, for considerations that are not in line with the public interest.".
In his proposal, Vider demands that an urgent discussion be held at the upcoming city council, during which, among other things, up-to-date and complete data on the state of the city's sewage system will be presented, and a detailed report will be provided on immediate steps to prevent the risk of disease transmission, especially polio.

It also demands that a comprehensive action plan be presented to upgrade the municipal sewage system, so that it is adapted to the current population size.
Vider added: "Ignoring or delaying treatment of the issue at this stage could cost human lives and cause serious health damage - and the blood that will be shed, God forbid, will be on your hands.".
At the same time, Vider contacted the Ministries of Health and the Interior, demanding immediate involvement.
