Finance Committee Chairman MK Hanoch Milbitsky broke his silence today (Friday) - and harshly criticized what he calls a "timed blood libel," which, he said, was intended to thwart his appointment to the position.
In a post he published on the X network, Milbitsky describes the past week as "stormy and shocking," and claims that this is a media-political campaign run by vested interests, with the aim of "eroding my legitimacy as an elected official.".
""The past week has been turbulent and shocking. I have decreed silence because I was asked to do so by the investigating body. Just as I cooperated fully with the investigation, so I did this time as well in order not to harm the integrity of the procedure. Unfortunately, there were those who, in a self-serving and cynical manner, took advantage of this not only to try to thwart my appointment to head the most important committee in the Knesset, but also to erode my very legitimacy as an elected official. To harm my ability to continue working for you, and to that I cannot agree," the MK wrote.
He added: "It's important for you to know: The events about which I was questioned occurred many years ago and the details were published in a series of television reports starting in 2017 and onwards and were known to everyone, including the Israel Police. So why haven't I been questioned until now? The answer is infuriatingly simple, the acts attributed to me do not constitute a criminal offense! That's it, easy, simple and clear.".
He said, "This was also the position of the investigator, who, according to media reports, has been conducting an active investigation into the matter for several years. So what happened suddenly? Why am I now being invited for questioning about those well-known, old events? It seems that today the answer and the timing are clear to everyone.".
""I will emphasize once again, I have no blemish. I have not broken the law and I certainly have not sexually abused anyone. Never. The lies that are being spread about me in some parts of the media and are echoed and amplified by a number of MKs who have lost their way are a blood libel!! Each of them will have to answer not to me, but to the Creator of the world. In the spirit of the Nine Days, they should hurry up and do some soul-searching.".
""I draw immense encouragement from the unprecedented support I receive everywhere, from the Prime Minister, ministers and ministers, the coalition chairman, members of the Knesset, on the street, in the elevator at the supermarket, and also in personal messages and on social media. You move me, you strengthen me, and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am here for you and for your sake, continuing with all my strength. And now – to work. There is God's will for me to do a lot in the Finance Committee.".
The investigation against Milvitsky began in 2022, during the time he was an attorney general at the Kabbalah for the People association. MK Milvitsky is suspected of being an attorney general – acting to brief a witness who would lie in court – and this is the main suspicion against him.
In a particularly transparent timing, he was summoned for questioning before his appointment as chairman of the Finance Committee.
