Former Israeli ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, estimates that without a military government, Israel will not be able to overthrow the Hamas regime.

In an interview with Shirit Avitan Cohen at the 'Katif' conference for national responsibility, he said about Hamas' decision: "No one wants to see the settlement return to Gush Katif like I do, and there is no greater message than that. But when it comes to a decision, what saddens me is that we are delaying the only thing that can bring Hamas to power - without an Israeli military government, and I understand its costs, there is no chance that we will bring about the overthrow of Hamas's governing capabilities."

"The cabinet should force the IDF to implement military rule as it was until 1993. Only then can we perhaps embark on those dreams of renewing Jewish settlement or conveying a message to the region of another Nakba in the sense that - Jihadists who attack Israel lose territory. This is the only language understood in the Middle East."

On Hamas's starvation campaign: "The UN is leveraging Hamas' lies about the starvation. Unfortunately, there is still no internalization in the Israeli government that information, branding, and awareness have the same importance as the Israel Defense Forces and the security establishment. Anyone who does not understand this is making a very serious mistake."

"I have previously presented a very broad plan to the Prime Minister, and there is the capacity in the country to establish an army of propaganda that requires budgets of billions of shekels, and that justifies it."

On the disengagement and being part of the "traitors" group in Likud: "I was invited to a meeting with the prime minister, and it was hinted to me that if I lower my profile then the sky is the limit. I told Sharon there was nothing to talk about. I would prefer, even if it were the last thing I would do in my political and public career, to be sent home with honor and not raise my hand in favor of a plan where everything that has happened since was expected and known."

"When I saw that Sharon had almost no in-depth answers, it gave me the feeling that there were extraneous considerations beyond what was presented in public.

"When we saw that courts were backing the prosecutor's office and the police to stop buses carrying protesters, there was a feeling of the end of democracy and that a ballot had no meaning. In retrospect, when we look at our reality today, the need for unity, and how much the internal struggle weakens us, I think the people of Israel should salute the Gush Katif settlers for the responsible way they led the struggle against the predatory machine of the legal system, the media, and most of all, the bulldozer Ariel Sharon and everyone who went with him."

On his plans for the future: "I intend to return to public service soon. I intend to run for the leadership of the Likud after the Netanyahu era."
