A spike in measles cases in ultra-Orthodox society: Many measles patients are hospitalized in Jerusalem hospitals - including Hadassah Mount Scopus and Hadassah Ein Kerem.

Fast track or regular track: will you decide how to receive your money?

Over the weekend, a one-year-old was admitted to Hadassah in very serious condition after being diagnosed with measles and significant respiratory distress. She was connected to an ACME machine in the pediatric intensive care unit.

In addition, a two-year-old toddler, who was evacuated from Shaarei Tzedek last week, is being treated in the ward - he is also connected to an ACME machine due to his serious condition, after being diagnosed with a secondary infection by pneumococcus that caused severe pneumonia.

Dr. Uri Pollak, Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hadassah Hospitals: "Measles is a rapidly contagious viral disease, especially in closed spaces. It is a serious and dangerous disease that manifests itself in fever, a general feeling of ill health, a runny nose, and a rash, which can lead to severe complications and a life-threatening condition."

Dr. Pollak and the pediatricians at Hadassah call on the public to vaccinate children and infants according to the Ministry of Health's vaccination program. "It is possible to prevent serious illness and save lives; it is up to the parents. The effectiveness of the vaccine is proven and it is very important to maintain a full vaccination routine for all children in the household to prevent dangerous infection."

The Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that since the start of the measles outbreak in Israel about three months ago, 245 patients have been diagnosed - 91 of whom are active patients. About half of the patients were diagnosed in the past week.

The Ministry of Health notes that most of the patients who were recently diagnosed are from the Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh areas.

According to the data, 871% of the patients are children – most of whom were not vaccinated.
