Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich reacted sharply this afternoon (Thursday) against MK Yitzhak Goldknopf - following his remarks about distinguishing between the pain of bereavement of religious Zionism and the pain of the Haredi.

Goldknopf said in an interview with Akiva Weiss on Makor Rishon: "Their pain will be with them and our pain will be with us. Don't bring me your pain and pass it on to me. Let's decide that everyone has their own package."

Smotrich wrote: "Goldknopf should be ashamed. Our sages taught us that anyone who does not regret the public's distress does not see its comfort. The immense pain of the bereaved families who lost their most precious person in our existential war is not the pain of religious Zionism. It is the pain of the people of Israel."

He added: "Anyone who excludes themselves from the rule is primarily an infidel. Instead of spouting nonsense and once again showing a disconnect from the people of Israel, look down and ask for forgiveness. I'm sure the vast majority of the Haredi public is ashamed of you."

Smotrich expressed his wish that the MK from Gur's court be replaced: "The time has come for you to be replaced with a representative who is connected to the people of Israel and understands his role and place."
