The Ministry of Defense is purchasing hundreds of light mobility vehicles (Hummers) for the ground forces worth 500 million NIS.

The Ministry of Defense and the IDF announced today (Sunday) a huge deal with the American company AM GENERAL to purchase hundreds of light mobility vehicles - the Hameri - for the ground forces.

The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. Amir Baram, approved the deal - which was signed by the ministry's procurement delegation in the US.

The deal is estimated at approximately NIS 500 million and includes the purchase of hundreds of Hummer vehicles, and support for spare parts and maintenance.

The first dozens of vehicles are expected to arrive this year.

The Hummer vehicles are light combat mobility vehicles used for a number of combat missions, including the movement of fighters, evacuation of the wounded, logistical support, fire, ICT, maintenance, training, and special missions.

The vehicle has high off-road capability, long service life, and operational and maintenance simplicity.

The purchased vehicle configuration includes adjustments that allow for the mobility of over ten fighters, the evacuation of several wounded, and firepower.
