Tena, a veteran media figure, will replace Avi Meshulam, who recently announced the end of his term after two years.
In his statement, Tena wrote: "Half a year after I was privileged to take part in the establishment of Ynet as an editor on the website's desk, I am excited to close the circle and return to Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth as editor-in-chief, a position that is a mission especially in these times."
He wanted to acknowledge: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the trust and the opportunity. A big thank you to the Makor Rishon system and the owners for a wonderful and meaningful period. I have all the appreciation and love for the system and its excellent people. And a final but important thank you to all the well-wishers."
Tena has served as editor of Makor Rishon, a newspaper owned by the Israel Hayom group, since 2022, when he replaced the previous editor, Hagai Segal.
Between 2015 and 2021, Tena headed the digital division of the Public Broadcasting Corporation, which he established when the corporation was founded.
He was then appointed head of the national information system in the Bennett government.
