Apparently, shots were fired and stones were thrown at them. Army and TAG forces joined the worshippers and evacuated them. Four of the Hasidim were injured, one seriously and the rest lightly.
According to a report by Itai Blumenthal, the military correspondent for 'Kan News', additional details that emerged in the IDF investigation into the incident indicate that some of the Hasidim entered the alleys of the Balata refugee camp in Nablus to reach Joseph's Tomb from there.
According to the report, one Hasidim was seriously injured in a lynching by Palestinians, and three others were slightly injured by stone-throwing. Palestinian security forces were the first to arrive at the scene, separated the Hasidim from dozens of Palestinians, and moved them to a protected location until IDF forces arrived. Without the security forces, this would have ended in a much more serious lynching.
It was also reported that in the morning, while the Hasidim were gathering before being evacuated by IDF forces, a Palestinian vehicle tried to run them over. There were no injuries.
Blumenthal emphasized: It is important to say that in Nablus, and certainly in the Balata camp, there are no Zionists. Violence and stones from bloodthirsty Palestinians are not normalized, but Israelis who enter there illegally must be held accountable.
He added: "My comment - Israelis who spontaneously enter the Balata refugee camp are brainless fools."
Hillel Biton Rosen, Channel 14's military correspondent, reported that this was a very serious incident involving the "Shuvu Banim" members, who risked their lives and the lives of our forces. According to him, the incident could have ended in many deaths and kidnappings.
The worshippers who were attacked entered without military coordination - which was required.
The IDF Spokesperson's Office stated: "During the night, Israeli citizens attempted to enter the city of Nablus without coordination and in violation of the law from several locations. IDF forces blocked the entrances to the city and worked to disperse the gatherings.
Additionally, a number of Israeli citizens entered the Joseph's Tomb complex in Nablus, where violent friction developed between them and Palestinian citizens in the area. All citizens were evacuated from the area and will be transferred by IDF forces to the Israel Police for further investigation.
"We emphasize that entry of Israeli citizens into Area A is dangerous and prohibited by law."
Since 2002, the IDF has allowed organized groups to visit the tomb, mainly at night, with a wide deployment of security forces. These visits are usually held on the eve of Rosh Chodesh, and on special days related to Joseph's Tomb.
