After a missile hit a bus parking lot in Herzliya: Deputy Minister of Transportation and Prime Minister's Office, Uri Maklev, conducted a professional tour of the public transportation emergency parking lot, located in the north of the country, which serves as an emergency reserve for a top-notch national purpose - population evacuation in times of emergency.
The parking lot houses hundreds of standard and well-equipped buses, which are kept on full alert, 24 hours a day - and accompanied by a dedicated team of drivers who are permanently on site, as part of preparations for large-scale security events or emergency mobilizations.
During the tour, which was conducted with the guidance of professionals from the Ministry of Transportation and public transportation operators, the Deputy Minister examined the level of competence of the parking lot, the availability of the driver system, the rapid operation system during a breakdown, and the adaptation to extreme situations - including the proactive evacuation of the population from areas affected by fighting, increased transportation for reserve recruitment, or an immediate response to unexpected security events.
According to Ministry of Transportation officials, with the beginning of the current fighting with Iran, the parking lot went into heightened alert mode, and in some cases served as a central launch point for transporting reserve forces on their way to bases and the front.
Maklev noted during the visit: "The ability to operate hundreds of buses within minutes is an essential component. We are preparing for any scenario, and are working to ensure that all transportation infrastructure is in full working order, even when this is not visible to the public. The visit here - precisely at a time of real threat to public transportation - is intended to ensure that we can provide a quick, orderly and safe response to any need that arises."
