Opposition leader MK Yair Lapid hinted this morning (Tuesday) in a post he published on his X network account that he was responsible for laying the foundations for Operation Beeper - one of the most impressive intelligence operations in Israeli history, which stunned the world.
The post, written in response to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's comments about the operation, drew criticism and ridicule from users, who claimed that Lapid was trying to take credit for himself that he did not deserve.
The opposition chairman attacked the prime minister: "Netanyahu's talk about the pager operation is an unnecessary and irresponsible exposure of the Mossad's operational methods. For a quarter of a headline, Netanyahu is jeopardizing future intelligence.".
""In the attached clip, Mossad head Dedi Barnea reveals when the operation matured. Ask yourself who the prime minister was 'at the end of 2022.' There was a reason why I remained silent about the details even after the operation was carried out," Lapid wrote, hinting that he was the one responsible for building the infrastructure for the operation and its success.
Lapid's response sparked a wave of online reactions, many of them critical and mocking.
One surfer reminded him: "Brother, you were prime minister for less time than the 05 recruits." And another surfer wrote: "Community comment: The October attack also matured during this time.".
One of the surfers taunted: "And don't forget the assassination of Nasrallah!""
And there was someone who mentioned the obvious joke: "Once upon a time, a mouse rode on the back of an elephant that was running in the desert and made dust. The mouse said to the elephant: Wow, wow, look how much dust we make.".
