The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment today (Thursday) with the Jerusalem Juvenile Magistrate's Court against a 12-year-old boy who stole a car two weeks ago, drove wildly and fled from the police.
According to the indictment, the defendant stole a private vehicle during the afternoon, after taking the car key from the synagogue next to the yeshiva where he studied.
Later, he tried to use a credit card found in the vehicle to refuel at a gas station, and then drove at excessive speed, overtook vehicles, endangering the lives of road users - and, of course, drove the vehicle without a license.
During his trip to Jerusalem, the defendant committed additional offenses, including driving against the direction of traffic, cutting off other vehicles, and fleeing a police checkpoint.
When the police tried to stop him, the defendant continued his dangerous escape, crossed into the oncoming lane, risking the lives of the police officers, and finally crashed into an iron pole.
He then got out of the vehicle and began to flee on foot.
During his escape, the defendant jumped over a nearby fence, entered a residence, and when the landlady asked what he was doing, he replied that "there are police outside." The landlady asked him to leave, and when he did, he was arrested by the police.
The indictment charges the defendant with intentionally endangering the lives of people on a transportation route, intentional sabotage, and other offenses.
The prosecution asked the court to extend the minor's restrictive conditions, including house arrest.
