Starting today (Sunday) until Friday, light rail traffic throughout Jerusalem will be suspended and it will not be possible to board the train.
This is for trial trips intended to obtain a safety permit for operating the new sections of the line - to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and Neve Yaakov.
On Friday, the regular line, from Pisgat Zeev to Mount Herzl, will reopen to passengers.
In the extended sections, between Pisgat Zeev and Neve Yaakov, and between Mount Herzl and Hadassah Ein Kerem, the operations will continue for several more days. At the end of them, the line is expected to be fully opened to passengers from Neve Yaakov to Hadassah Ein Kerem.
As an alternative for passengers, special bus lines will be operated and existing bus lines will be strengthened.
The alternative bus service that will operate during the trial:
• Northern section – reinforcement of existing lines
• Pisgat Zeev - Reinforcement of existing lines: 22, 25, 49, 65, 66, 540, 541
• Beit Hanina - Reinforcement of Line 274
• Central section - temporary alternative service will be added: lines 500 and 501 (identical in route) - from Givat Hambatar, through the city center to the central bus station, line 502 - from the central bus station, to the municipality and back to the central bus station and line 503 - from Givat Hambatar to the municipality and back to Givat Hambatar
• Southwestern section - extension of lines 20, 21, 23, 24, 27, 29 from the southwest of the city to the Central Station and Torim Station area
With the extension of the light rail's Red Line, new stations will be added: four in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood, eight in the Kiryat Yovel, Kiryat Menachem and Ora intersection areas, and two stations on the way to Hadassah Ein Kerem (in Mpeltsat and at the entrance to Kiryat Menachem).
