For the first time since 3,000 recruitment orders were issued in July: Last night, yeshiva student Amitai Amar, 20, a student at the 'Tiferet Zvi' yeshiva in Jerusalem, was arrested at Ben Gurion Airport while on his way to the memorial service for Rabbi Nachman in Uman.

He was handed over to the military police, arrested and imprisoned in the Neve Tzedek detention facility in the Beit Lid camp.

According to his associates, before leaving for the airport, he was checked at the Interior Ministry to see if he would be allowed to leave the country, and he was told that there was no impediment. It should be noted that he also underwent the same check at the Interior Ministry before Rosh Hashanah and left without delay.

A hearing on his case is scheduled for today (Friday) at the military court. The rabbis of the 'Tiferet Zvi' yeshiva hired the services of attorney Menachem Stauber, who specializes in the process of arresting yeshiva students and is considered an expert in dealing with the military attorney general's office.

The organization 'Lema'anach', the yeshiva student assistance center, says: "Last night, a yeshiva student was arrested, after his status was not regulated due to the lack of legislation regulating the status of yeshiva students. Since the moment of the arrest, the association 'Lema'anach' has been working tirelessly to provide the detainee and his family with all the necessary assistance.

"The detainee is a yeshiva student who, due to his personal past, reported for the first warrant. A lawyer on behalf of the union was sent this morning to the 'Neve Tzedek' detention facility, and in collaboration with the legal team is examining the details of the case in depth, and in accordance with the decisions of the military court, further steps will be determined."

The Yeshiva Council says: "In any matter of going abroad - all yeshiva students have been warned many times to check with the Yeshiva Council, the only system that is updated online about each student's status. You cannot rely on checking at government offices."

It is estimated that demonstrations are expected today in various regions of the country by Haredim to protest his arrest and demand his release.
