The IDF revealed new videos this evening (Tuesday) from the operation to rescue the bodies of six hostages in Khan Yunis, which was carried out by the combat team of the Paratroopers Brigade, including forces from the 75th Battalion and the Yahalam unit, together with the Shin Bet.
Unusual warning: These are the things you should not bring near all beaches
In the operation, the bodies of Alex Danzig, Yoram Metzger, Avraham Munder, Haim Perry, Yagev Buchstab and Nadav Poppelwell were recovered from Gaza.
The operation to rescue the bodies of the six kidnapped people that took place on the night between Monday and Tuesday was carried out following partial intelligence information that reached the IDF, during which the forces operated in four tunnels - in one of which the bodies were located after hours of activity.
This happened yesterday evening when the fighters identified the bodies of Hamas terrorists with Kalashnikov rifles on them, near the tunnel shafts. Yahalam fighters, who had gained experience in extracting bodies, estimated that the terrorists had been placed there to guard the bodies of the kidnapped and brought additional forces to the scene.
Yahyalam fighters and Shin Bet forces entered the tunnel at a depth of about 10 meters, scanned for traps using technological aids, and then went through several branches. They explored the tunnel route and neutralized the blockages, the trap doors, and located weapons, explosives, and means of shelter used by the terrorists.
At this point, they located a wall that appeared to be loose, opened it - and discovered a hidden route that led to the compound where the bodies of the kidnapped were hidden, which did not require identification at the Abu Kabir Pathology Institute.
This is the same method of hiding behind a wall, as happened in the previous operation in which the bodies of kidnapped people were recovered from Khan Yunis. The IDF assumes that this is a method of operation to hide the bodies of kidnapped people, with the aim of making it difficult for the IDF to locate them.
The rescue was completed last night after prolonged fighting that began at noon on Friday, when forces from Division 98 launched a brigade-wide attack near the Qatari neighborhood. The forces fought in built-up areas and high-rise buildings, and carried out raids and sweeps, which led to the elimination of terrorists and the destruction of terrorist infrastructure - and achieved operational control that allowed them to reach the underground.
Then, the fighters of Battalion 75 began operating underground, while at the same time, Yahyalam forces and the General Security Service ensured that the neighborhood was secured and isolated.
In less than 24 hours, the fighters were already inside the tunnel, after that morning Lieutenant Shahar Ben Nun was killed by the IDF bombing in Khan Yunis.
Battalion 75 commander Lieutenant Colonel Ron to his fighters after the bodies of the kidnapped were recovered: "Within 24 hours, we recovered the bodies of the late Nadav Poppelwell, the late Yagev Buchstab, the late Avraham Munder, the late Haim Perry and the late Alex Danzweig. You did a job and you continue to do an extraordinary job. I want everyone to know that I am proud of you, to the last of the fighters. Continue to act with determination, continue to act professionally."
Captain Ziv, a company commander in the Paratroopers, said about the operation: "We have been fighting here for several days. We carried out a surprise night attack, fighting in the high-rises, which worked extremely successfully. We are engaged in efforts to return the kidnapped and missing. We will do everything possible to return them."
According to the Channel 12 report, due to Hamas' attempts to hide the bodies, the IDF's surprise operations are of great importance, preventing the murderous terrorist organization from preparing for them or carrying out actions that would cause the fighters to pursue it. One day, the forces are carrying out operations in the fence area - and suddenly change the mission in a surprise move and launch an attack from a different area.
It was reported in Kan News that the IDF had previously attacked the area where the tunnel was from the air. However, even now, after the bodies were recovered, it is not yet possible to determine with certainty what killed the hostages.
According to the IDF, more than six bodies of the Israeli hostages were recovered from the tunnel, and according to estimates, these were the bodies of terrorists. Similarly, there were bodies of armed terrorists in all the openings.
The IDF sent these bodies for examination.
The IDF estimates that there are more hostages in the area. Therefore, the IDF is still operating in the area and has not exhausted its missions in the area, hoping to achieve additional achievements in the coming days - whether rescuing hostages or striking Hamas leaders hiding in tunnels. This is in parallel with striking Hamas battalions of the Khan Yunis Brigade.
The rescue operation was carried out under the command of Division 98 by fighters from the Paratrooper Brigade, the Yahalam Unit, and the 75th Battalion, alongside Shin Bet fighters, and was made possible thanks to accurate intelligence from the Shin Bet, intelligence units, and the Kidnapped Command in the Intelligence Branch.
