The General Security Service and the Southern District of the Israel Police announced today (Thursday) that they had uncovered an organization of Negev residents who planned to carry out terrorist activity in Israel.

In a joint operation by the Shin Bet and the police during the month of July, several suspects were arrested, including three residents of Tel Sheva in the Negev: Wadie Atta, Assi (Massav) Abu Assa, and Muawiya Abu Assa.

As part of the investigation, it emerged that Wadi Atta attempted to instigate terrorist activity in Israel and to that end worked to recruit others to advance his plan, this against the backdrop of the fighting in the Gaza Strip and after he was exposed online to the content of the terrorist organizations Islamic State (ISIS) and the Taliban.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Assi Abu Asa and Muawiya Abu Asa agreed to Atta's proposal to carry out jihad terrorist activity in Israel and to acquire weapons.

However, this activity was thwarted by the General Security Service and the Israel Police, before they could take steps to implement their plan.

At the end of the investigation, the Southern District Attorney's Office filed a serious indictment against them today with the Beer Sheva District Court.

"The Shin Bet and the police view the involvement of Israeli citizens in terrorist activity with seriousness and will continue to work to thwart and bring to justice those involved in terrorist offenses who seek to harm Israeli citizens and residents," the statement said.
